VIEW AMARAH'S ART WORK

Since graduating with Honours in 1976 from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Amarah K. Gabriel has painted passionately. Her work has been purchased by art collectors worldwide. Amarah became interested in children's need for expression creativity while in art school and taught children's art classes while implementing many new educational ideas. Later, she painted from deep within her psyche while tapping into her spirituality as she explored women's issues, personal development, healing and the human potential movement. In her 40's, she found herself living on the west coast where her environmental and eco-consciousness grew, painting images of wild women protecting the forest, spending time in Clayoquot Sound.and published her art on tree-free paper through Green Goddess Productions. Later moving to Salt Spring Island, she found herself working with Community groups to raise money for environmental and human issues including painting masks of Owl, Raven, Woodpecker, Cougar, and Newt for use in the Save Salt Spring Women's Calendar. Proceeds were used to buy land that was under threat of clear cutting by a development corporation. Amarah's partnership with Timothy Raven Hume of Artangels led them to do the Can Buoy Mural for the Salt Spring Harbour Authority. It has created awareness of the benefit of public art for the whole community. It marks the entrance to Centennial Wharf in Ganges and features orcas, salmon, cod, an octopus seals and other marine life, as well as a Coast Guard cutter and kayaks. The mural depicts what would be seen on and below the water near Salt Spring Island. "I love where I live. I love who I am with. I love what I do. I love my life." Amarah Gabriel is a master colourist whose work is sold worldwide.Painting for 30 years, her signature style is distinct. People, Animals, Wild woman, or her latest Garden, Fruit, Vegetables and Flower series are skilfully rendered, lush with detail and sensuality.
